Copyright Office Proposes Rule to Modernize Recordation of Notices of Termination and Seeks Comment on Other Potential Changes

The U.S. Copyright Office is proposing to update its regulations governing the recordation of notices of termination in conjunction with the development of the Office’s online electronic recordation system. In addition, the Office is providing notice of changes to its examination practices for certain notices of termination that pertain to multiple grants. Finally, the Office seeks public comment regarding the possible development of a sample form, template, or similar guidance documents for notices of termination, as well as potential regulatory updates regarding notices filed by third-party agents.

The proposed rule and instructions on how to submit comments are available here. Written comments must be received no later than July 6, 2020, at 11:59 p.m. eastern time.
